Our election process will start with our May nomination meeting at Sysco.

Message from the CACC President

CACC Members, Associates and guests.

I would like to take a few minutes of your time to update you about what the Association has done so far this year.

- We have had several regular meetings
- Held educational sessions
- Volunteered for International Chef’s day
- Had a bowling fun night
- Held a Children’s Christmas party
- The Annual Christmas Banquet

Some upcoming events are:

- Easter Seals
- Educational sessions (the next one is on Pates and Force Meats)
- Calgary Regional Skills competition for High School Students
- Regular monthly meetings with speakers
- Annual Golf tournament

Of course the next major event is the Annual President’s Gala and Awards Dinner on Saturday March 13, 2010.
This year’s host Chef is Michael Nowik and will be held at the Deerfoot Inn and Casino. If you have not already purchased your tickets ($65.00 each) please do so.
This is your time to come out and support the past, present and future award recipients and also an opportunity for a memorable dinner
and a great time to socialize with others.

The 2010 Pastry Chef of the Year competition which will be held on Sunday May 30, 2010, at the CCFCC National Conference in Windsor, Ontario. Please note that a minimum of 5 applicants will be required for this competition to be held. Please encourage all pastry chefs in your respective branches to participate.

Culinary demonstration

Date: February 23rd, 2010
Theme: Introduction to Chocolate and Sugar
Place: Fort Calgary, main kitchen, 2nd floor
Start time: 5:30 pm
Fee: $10.00

Lector: Tia Southworth, Pastry Chef, Earl Grey Golf Club

Introduction to sugar and chocolate, basic techniques, tempering chocolate, stages of sugar, work with Isomalt, blown sugar, poured sugar and more. Open to a maximum to 25 people, we reserve right to cancel if less than 10 registered.

The 2010 CACC President's Ball

 

The next meeting of the CACC will be our annual President's Gala and Awards Night. It will take place on Saturday March 13th At the Deerfoot Inn & Casino. Start time is 6:00 pm and Cost is $65.00.
The menu is attached for your perusal.
 

Please note there will be a DJ so bring your dancing shoes!

The Deerfoot Inn & Casino is offering a special room rate of $149 double occupancy including Sunday brunch for those wishing to party the night away. When making your room reservation directly with the Deerfoot Inn please tell them you are with the CACC to get the special room rate & brunch.

The Alberta Junior Culinary Challenge

 

.....Will be held on February 26, 2010 at

 

SAIT Polytechnic
1301 – 16 Ave NW
Calgary, Alberta

The attached competition guide will provide all required info.

The initial submission is due by 4 pm February 12, 2010.

This comprises of a menu with photographs of the finished plates, as well as a complete requisition for all food supplies required for the 3 course, 8 cover menu.

Finalists will be confirmed on Tuesday, February 16.

The actual competition will take place on February 26 @ SAIT.

The winner of the Alberta Challenge will be invited to compete at the National Junior Culinary Challenge during the CCFCC AGM in Windsor to be held in late May or early June 2010.

CACC Annual Children’s Christmas Party

 

It is now time to register for our annual children’s Christmas party.
Planned activities include a ginger bread house station & the Water Park. All children 12 & under will receive a present.
In order for Santa to have the gifts ready you must register the children in your party. You provide the gender, name and age and we will have Santa’s elves make and wrap the presents- could it be any simpler?  All members of our Association are encouraged to attend.
Grand parents are invited to bring their kids and grand children along.

Date: Sunday December 27th
Time: 11:00 am to 3:00 pm
Place: Deerfoot Inn and Casino
Room: Brentwood room
Cost: $10 per adult (13 or older); children free (12 & under).
Menu: the Rudolf menu will be served

Good day all;

Our annual Christmas dinner is fast approaching.

This event has become very popular so get your tickets early to avoid disappointment.

Guests are always welcome- you do not have to work in the food service industry to enjoy this special event.

The evening makes for a great company or department party.

We will again support the Calgary Inter Faith Food Bank.

Door prizes, 50/50 tickets, our traditional raffle for a painting by Fanny and the freezer draw make for exciting highlights.

The food and the ambiance are always paramount and this year will not disappoint.

Chris Thomson - Victory !

 

Congratulations go out to Chris Thompson for his victory in the WACS Chefs Challenge of the Americas.

Here is the official press release regarding Chris, as the winner of the WACS Global Chefs Challenge – Continental final Americas which took place in Sao Paulo, Brazil, at the end of September.

CACC Annual Christmas Dinner Meeting

 

Our annual Christmas Dinner meeting is again at Spruce Meadows.

Cocktail will start at 6 pm with dinner to follow. Please bring a donation for the Food Bank. Take note the date has been moved.

The dinner will be on Monday November 30 and not on the usual first Monday of the month. Again help disseminate the word; invite your friends and co-workers and bring your family.

The cost is $60 per ticket. Tables of 8 are available.

This is our most popular event of the year so get your tickets early to avoid disappointment. To order your tickets:

National Chef Challenge and Competition News !

 

The CCFCC National Chefs Challenge winner (Chris Thomson) and the Pastry Chef of the Year (Guy Vaugeois) are both members of the CACC/CCFCC Calgary Branch and both work in Banff.

The National Junior Culinary Challenge competitor from Alberta was Jordan Clay of Calgary.
